THE COACHING PROCESS

Change is a process. The type of support I offer differs depending on the phase:

  1. Phase - Clarifying Aims: You describe your issue and I support you to define your goals, to separate the tasks from the restrictions and to solve goal conflicts. Then we know for certain what we should work on and in which order.

  2. Phase - Strengthening Resources: You build up courage and motivation for change. I support you in accessing your resources and formulating your goals, but also in understanding the meaning of your previous behaviours and views. You feel competent and equipped to deal with your issues.

  3. Phase - Developing Solutions: You develop solutions for your issues and define initial step toward your goal. I support you in developing new perspectives and reducing problematical attitudes. We generate further options for your conduct, however, you decide which path you would like to take in the future.

  4. Phase - Taking Initial Steps: You experiment with new attitudes and behaviours in your private and professional life. I support you in the implementation and further steps. What works, where do difficulties occur and how can you deal with them effectively?

Change processes rarely proceed in the linear fashion that this phase model implies, since people and relationships are incalculable. There is bound to be progress, relapses, changes in direction, reconsideration, leaps and other turbulences. Nevertheless, this model offers a survey of what you can expect in coaching and what my role will be.
